The Youth is Going Analog!
A Girl’s Night Out Captured By Digital Camera
Outings result in all kinds of pictures and memories. When people pose to capture the rhythm and vibes of social moments, they pose in front of ancient devices… the digital camera. At some point in time, our phones and our pictures stopped feeling genuine. Smartphones stopped being a tool to capture the moment and instead they were the moment. Instead of dressing up for each other, the vibes, and atmosphere of the outing, we dressed up and posed with certain backgrounds and foregrounds with one thing in mind: how will this look to our followers. If the pics weren’t good our outfits felt wasted and useless. Now with the revival of analog and digital cameras, we get one picture and we move on. The pictures are grainy and real. Someone always looks imperfect but we stay in the moment. No crazy posing and arched backs, just, “everyone grab a friend and smile.”
The youth is going analog. But what does that really mean? The youth are turning to real paper notebooks instead of the notes app. The youth are taking the phones off their wrist and putting real watches on instead. If the phone does come along with the youth, it stays put away in a bag or a pocket. We’re all craving reality. But what does this mean for fashion? How will this change the way we dress? We are beginning to see fashion for real life rather than instagram. The outfits are less performative and more messy and fun. Fashion freedom and expression over fashion expectations. If we aren’t seeing and thinking about what Instagram is wearing, styles will become authentic and genuine. They can grow and prosper between your personality and the clothes and stores you have access to. No more running after the newest influencer affiliation link. If you like it on the shelf, you buy it no matter who wore it in their post.
Styles are always changing and evolving. There is no better way to express your authentic style than letting reality guide your decisions.
